Data Backup

For organisations, Data Backup, or the process of backing up data, refers to the copying and archiving of computer data so it can be used to fully restore the original data after a loss.

Backups have two key purposes. The primary purpose is to recover data after its loss, due to deletion or corruption. Data loss can be a common experience of network users. The secondary purpose of backups is to recover data from an earlier time, according to the organisations own, or regulatory mandated data retention policy. Backups should be part of, not the whole of, a disaster recovery plan.

Recent advancements in Backup technology have seen a shift from traditional tape based back up processes and we are seeing a move to appliance base on premises solutions and moves to complete cloud-integrated solution for protecting physical and virtual environments. These solutions can include software, appliance, and offsite replication. Users are also moving towards solutions that are simple to deploy, easy to manage, and offer unlimited cloud storage.
